Darkness comes in a whispher

Darkness comes like a snake whispering in our ear of who we are, as it pulls us deeper and deeper into the layers of humanity, like a rolling ball falling into the one place it can't move.

We turn around like forests burning, like water spilling back onto the land, and we scream, crying to  the mad men who watch our dreams, and we ask for forgiveness. the mercy of a judge, as we punish ourselves for not being loved, for not reaching high enough and picking an apple instead of climbing a tree, falling in love with a snake instead of a man.

We scream in horror as our lives replay to the ticking of a clock, second by second we wait, hearing our own voice, seeing our own trails left behind from another woman, who swore she had been us already.

And we live expecting love, needing love, and we run into the black thinking there will be a way out.
